Library Appreciation Days
It's almost time for Library Appreciation Days at Barnes and Noble.
Once again Barnes & Noble is partnering with The New Jersey State Library and New Jersey Library Association on New Jersey Library Appreciation Days, a program designed to help fund Statewide Summer Reading at all Public Libraries in New Jersey in 2007. Barnes and Noble will donate a percentage of every sale from every customer who presents a book fair voucher at every Barnes and Noble store in New Jersey during these two days- Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9, 2006. The funds raised from this two day event will benefit the children and young adults who participate in next year's summer reading program.
Remember, to participate in this program, a customer must use a voucher at the time of purchase. Copies of these vouchers are available at the following websites:
Print out a stack of vouchers and ask your circulation staff to put one in every book checked out until and including the Library Appreciation Days themselves: September 8 and 9. Put stacks around the library, to accompany displays, at service desks, next to a flyer describing the program, wherever and however you think you can get it in the hands of your customers.
Some of the Barnes and Noble Community Relations Managers are reaching out to local libraries, asking for programs at their stores during this two-day period. This is a wonderful way to promote the program because you can remind your audience that they are in the store on a library appreciation day and that every purchase with a voucher benefits the public libraries of New Jersey. You can't hand out vouchers in the stores during this two-day period, but you can remind the people in your audience to ask for a voucher when they make a purchase, if they haven't brought one with them.
If you have not been contacted by your local Barnes and Noble stores, why not reach out to them. Offer to do a storytime, staff a Garden State display, talk to kids about back to school titles, anything you can think of to establish a strong library presence in the stores during this important event.
